Flatweaves Kur

Flatweave carpets can be made in several styles. These carpets are often referred to in the trade as “kilim,” or “hanbels” but kilim is a Turkish word and hanbel, an Arabic word, refers to weavings made for hanging rather than for covering the floor. Kur designs are made by interweaving colored yarns with the weft yarns. Many of the patterns created this way are very traditional Amazigh symbols, such as the “tifurshin,” the “takhlilt,” the “mtarin” and the “lishem.”
